REFLECTION APPLICATION: MAKING SOAP

For this lab project, we were given task to make a soap. Each groups were assigned different types of substance such as sunflower oil, corn oil, margarine and palm oil. Our group has to make a soap from the sunflower oil. We were so excited to do this experiment as we have never done this experiment during the secondary school.

            This lab project takes so much time to do. This is because during the process of making soap, we must boil the content into 300˚C to make sure that all of the water inside the beaker has evaporated. Besides that, during the boiling processes, we must stirred the content to make sure the content is mixed thoroughly and we take turn to stir it. I can see the co-operativeness between the groups the members during this experiment.

During the conducting the process, we do not neglect all the safety precautions. When we want to mix any chemical that has potential to harm us, we will wear the gloves. In addition, we also wear gloves when we want to take the hot sodium hydroxide from that large beaker. At the end of the lab project, we successfully produced a very lovely soap. We turn the soap into pink heart-shaped soap and we also decorate the soap by adding the petals of the flower that we have finely chopped onto the soap.

For this laboratory project experiment, our group was assigned with task to make a soap with saponification of sunflower oil. Different groups were assigned with different kind of fat and oils. For instance, there are butter, corn oil, palm oil and margarine. We were so thrilled to do this experiment because we would like to see the outcome of our product.

            This process took us quite a long time and safety precautions have been taken during the experiment. Before mixing any chemicals, we will make sure that all of us wore our gloves. When handling with hot sodium hydroxide, we make sure that our group member wear gloves always stay in sight.

            Since we combined two experiments, we assigned the tasks for each group members equally. I was assigned to handle the materials and apparatus, while my group members are preparing the chemicals.

            Our group project was a success because we can produced a heart-shaped soap with addition of color and flower part.

Assalamualaikum and hello everyone, today our experiment about the application: Making Soap. For this experiment each group was given a different type of substance. Our group get a sunflower oil as a substance to be use in our process in making the soap. We really excited to do this experiment because before this we only buy a soap from shop or market but today we gone make it by ourselves. The process to make the soap is really long, because we need to heat the solution with 300 ⁰C until there are no any water left in the solution. This to make sure that the soap can be shape into the shape that we want. Some of the group cannot make the soap into shape because the solution in the form of liquid. But our group manage to make the soap in to the heart shape and addiction of colour and flower part. During the process of making the soap we take a serious precaution during handling the chemical solution, all the group member are using gloves and we make sure to wash our hand if there are any chemical that get into our hand. It was a really fun experiment for me because I get to know the real process in making the soap and get to experiences doing it by myself. Thank to my group member for their cooperation that make the experiment can be done on the time.
