In this experiment that we had done, I learn about the titration of the fat by using the HCL. This experiment took quite amount of time. This is because we need to set it up by using the reflux condenser and we need to use it twice due to insufficient reflux condenser. For the first time that I am going to reflux the substances, I do not switch on the reflux machine after we have waited for about half an hour. Then we do it again as we want to complete our experiment.

In this experiment, we do not neglect the safety precautions that we have to take care of. All of us wore the gloves when we want to take or mix the chemicals even though the chemicals cause no harm to us. After an hour, we manage to complete the experiments and we write the result in a pieces of paper. After that, we also asked results from the other groups as we only do on sunflower sample. We tabulated the result and saponification number is calculated.

In this experiment, we need to find the value saponification number for each of the sample. Different groups were assigned with different type of samples. I also feel so thrilled to learn how to make soap by using modern ingredients. We were assigned to bring some decoration from home for instance flowers, perfume, glitters and so on.

The process of determining the saponification number required many steps. Hence, my groupmates and I divided the work equally. We are so lucky that we are able to finish the experiment within the time given.  

I’m glad that our instructor being so helpful and this make our experiment run smoothly. Last but not least, a massive respect to my group members for contributing their hard work in order to make this lab work a success.

Assalamualaikum and hello everyone, for today experiment we are doing about lipid. For more specific is saponification of triglycerides. For this experiment, we gone look at the saponification number in different type of substance such as sunflower oil, palm oil, corn oil, margarine and butter. Saponification number is used to show the length of fatty acid chain in triglycerides. When the triglyceride contain high number of fatty acid it will have lower saponification number. This experiment, take a really long time but our group manage to finish up before the lab session finish. In this experiment, we using many chemical solution that are danger. So we make sure that we using glove before handle the chemical solution and we also make sure that we handle the solution in the place that have been provide for using the chemical solution in lab.  During the process doing this experiment, my group member really help me a lot to finish up this experiment in the time given. We divide work equally and help each other to finish up this experiment. After that we collect all data and calculate the saponification number and divided the work for the report and discuss about the result.
